Education Council - Student Representatives

Samreet Kaur

Central Okanagan

Hi! I'm Samreet. I'm a second year international student pursuing an Associate Degree in Mathematics at ÂÒÂ׺£½Ç, Kelowna. Passionate about all things related to service, I love to contribute to progressive initiatives, projects and services that help in improving student life on campus. For over an year now, I have served as a student representative with the ÂÒÂ׺£½Ç Students' Union, dedicated to working for advocacy, events and campaigns that focus on critical issues concerning the post-secondary student community.

Currently serving as the Kelowna Campus Council Chairperson and Member of Board for the ÂÒÂ׺£½ÇSU, I am also a member of Equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice (EDISJ) committee, Food security committee and Open Education Resources (OER) committee with ÂÒÂ׺£½ÇSU and a representative with the Inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility in Libraries (IDEAL) committee. I have previously been a member of various hiring committees, committees for planning, strategizing and student policies, thus actively being a part of decisions and discussions that impact the students' experience at ÂÒÂ׺£½Ç. An active listener and problem solver, I would be honored to bring my views and experience as well as student feedback to the Education Council in order to enhance post-secondary experience for students.

Kaelah Riley

Shuswap/Revelstoke

Hi! My name is Kaelah Riley & I’m a first-year student in the Associate of Science program at the Salmon Arm campus. Despite pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field, I fill my free time with art, whether that is signing up for a stained-glass workshop, exploring my local art museum, or trying my best to follow a Bob Ross painting tutorial. My love for scientific & creative endeavors gifts me a holistic perspective that I’m eager to share with the Education Council.

Another thing I would love to share is my deep-rooted value that our education system should be designed to set students up for success in both their academic & personal lives, and that it is critical that the system understands & addresses the diverse & complex needs of the student population. With my previous work experience revolving around goal-oriented teams, I’ll be able to apply those experiences to the Education Council & prioritize collaborating with other members to uncover innovative ideas that can continually improve our education system. Yet, above all, my goal would be to amplify the student body’s voice & advocate for an education system that’s designed for students, by students.
